2015 Parade of Homes In 2015 Arpad Builders, LLC entered a whole house remodel of a 100+ year old adobe on Santa Fe's historic Eastside in the Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association Parade of Homes. The home has 900 square feet heated space with 50 square feet of portals and overhangs and 60 square feet of attached, outside storage. The lot size is a little over 2,000 square feet. The interior of the home had 5 main rooms and a bathroom, all on separate floor elevations with 16" elevation difference from the front door to the back of the home. A new floor plan was designed by Claire Lange and myself to increase logical flow, privacy, energy efficiency, and maximize the small footprint without adding square footage. The new floor plan put all the rooms on the same level; moved the kitchen to the center of the home, making an open space with the dining room and living room; created 2 bedrooms with large closets in the back of the home; and converted a 1980's sun room into an airlock entry with a coat closet and a light-filled study/office. There were many challenges to the remodel, but in all cases the homeowner wanted the project done with the best construction techniques in the highest quality. As a result, the Camino Don Miguel project was awarded the first ever Phoenix Award for Exceptional Historic Renovation in the 2015 SFAHBA Parade of Homes.
